Earth Day was celebrated around the world yesterday. We all need to do our small part to make our earth green with our environmental choices. Here are a few quick tips:
Remember to recycle and to use energy-efficient florescent bulbs throughout your house. We can reduce pollution equal to removing a million cars from the road by just replacing one standard bulb with a florescent one.
Fix any faucets or pipes that may be leaking in your home and you can save about 200 gallons of water a day (this will not only save water but will save you money as well).
I am proud to say that Edmond Electric is a national leader in helping to make our earth green. The Pure and Simple Wind Power program has been ranked as #1 in the nation by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nation Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Edmond Electric will be providing information about its energy-efficiency programs this Saturday, April 26 from 4-6 p.m., at the Environmental Exposition, sponsored by the Southern Hills Christian Church. The event will be held in the Southern Hills Christian Church’s Fellowship Hall. Other organizations will also be participating and offering information on environmental preservation.

Be sure to attend and learn what is being done and what you can do to help make our earth green.

The event is free and everyone is invited.

If you listen to national news you may be under the impression that home sales are at a decline. According to Pat V. Combs, 2007 President of the National Association of Realtors, Oklahoma’s real estate market is steadily rising. In 2006, Oklahoma saw a 1.3 percent increase in home sales along with a 1.5 percent increase in the 1st four quarters ending in June 2007.

In contrast to other areas of the country, Oklahoma’s market is doing well. The reason for the states growth is because “real estate is local”. Attractive interest rates are available everywhere across the country but Oklahoma is stable for several additional reasons. Our home prices are not “inflated” like in some other ailing parts of the country. We have both a healthy job and population growth. In 2007, 19,600 more people moved into our state than moved out. Oklahoma also beat the national average in employment gain by almost 1 percent.

So if the Oklahoma real estate market is doing fine – where is all the negativity and concern coming from? Several factors are involved… First, the Mortgage Bankers of America have reported foreclosures and delinquencies are increasing. However, if you remove the states of California, Nevada, Florida and Arizona from the list then the foreclosures are down nationwide. In fact, Oklahoma foreclosures were down 21 percent in the first 6 months of 2007 over this same time last year.

Another problem adding to the negative perception of the real estate market is the “spin” the national media has put on home sales. It has “lumped” the entire country together rather than look at each individual market. Oklahoma is unique from the rest of the country because of our affordable home prices and low cost of living. Our states continued growth in both jobs and population translates to this being a great time to buy a home in Oklahoma.

Purchasing a home is a long-term investment. It strengthens our community and it exemplifies how fortunate we are to live in this great state and have the opportunities that we have.

In the real estate game, we “Sett” you up to “Wynn”!
